Joeyverse Costume Contest

It occurs to me I NEVER WROTE ABOUT THIS HERE.

So y'all now have a tighter deadline!

:star: JOEYVERSE COSTUME CONTEST :star:

Overview: Joey is hosting a Joeyverse Cosplay Contest! Dress up as your favorite character from one of Joey's books, submit some photos with a nominal jackpot-style submission fee, and then win all the money!

RULES (as of 12/16/2008)

These rules are subject to change in case I realize I wrote something stupid or forgot something. Please check back before submitting your entry. Your entry should follow the rules as they are posted upon your submission (that is, if you submit your entry and I tweak the rules after your email reaches my inbox, you are exempt from fulfilling the additional/changed rules.)

SCOPE: You must choose characters/costumes that fit BOTH of the following requirements:

a) They must be from one (or more) of the following novels/series: Final Waltz, Skeptics + Innocents, Derelict Heaven, or 12.

b) The costume version you choose must either be directly from a picture drawn by Joey, OR explicitly described in text.

MATERIALS: Your costume must be constructed by you. However, I don't expect you to go through the trouble to hand-sew a t-shirt; many of the costume elements in my books are "normal" type clothes. Finding pre-made elements is allowed. Buying or commissioning props/accessories is allowed; commissioning an entire costume is not. You may be asked to provide a brief description of the construction of your costume.

CONSTRUCTION: You may use patterns, templates, other peoples' help, etc in the construction of your costume.

SUBMISSION

Contest Deadline is November 2nd, 2009. This gives you a chance to wear your costume on Halloween, get some pictures, get over your hangover, and send in your submission.

Every submission will consist of: a) Photos showing off the costume b) Submission fee c) copy or link to source image and d) A brief form. All Photos and Source Images submissions should be sent to joeyverse@gmail.com. See below for details.

PHOTOS: Please send in two or more photos of you in costume. Your entry will be judged by photos as well as by construction. We want to see you in a setting that befits your costume! The quality of the photos will play a role in the judging of your costume. Please attach photos only after they have been resized for web. If you have any questions about this, please ask.

Photoshopping is allowed for special effecs (eye color changes, fireballs, etc), but in the case that you do use Photoshop for any doctoring aside from level/density/etc tweaks, I want to see the original photo, too. [[Added 12/16/08]]

ENTRY FEE: Each submission should be accompanied by a $5 submission fee. This money will be held by me until contest judging, at which point it (+$10 added by me) is magically converted into the 1st place prize. This means the more people who enter, the higher the prize.

Paypal fees can be sent to j@violetiris.com
Cash will be accepted, but only in person.
I'll also accept personal checks. Please inquire for address.

COPY of (or Link to) Source Image: As stated above, all costumes must be directly from a specific image (or images) drawn by Joey. Please attach that image (preferably cropped to show just your costume if it's from a larger picture) or a link to that image with your submission. If you have a specific image in mind but are having trouble finding a digital copy of it, please ask and I'll see what I can do about finding it for you.

FORM: Below is attached a very brief inquiry form for basic information about you and your contest entry. Fill it out and attach or copy/paste the contents into the email.

PRIZES & JUDGING

Costumes will be judged by Joey and Claire, and a special 3rd judge (meaning I haven't picked one yet... maybe Tim Gunn). Judging will be based upon the following criteria:

Construction: How well was the costume constructed? Even if it was not sewn by you, are the materials well chosen and put together into a costume?

Effort: How much effort was put into the costume? Even if the cosplayer owns everything in the costume, does it look like they put effort into carefully choosing the right elements?

Photography/Portrayal: How well was the costume captured on film? How well does the cosplayer "play the part" of the character they are representing? Think about posing, environment, lighting, etc.

PRIZES

1st PLACE PRIZE: The untaxed and unaltered accumulation of all submission entry fees + $10 fronted by Joey. Payment will be delivered via Paypal unless you happen to live in the area, in which case we can arrange a secret meeting.

2nd PLACE PRIZE: A signed copy of any book currently "in print" -- currently this includes Echoes of Thunder, and Derelict Heaven, but by contest deadline time should also include Shadows of Fire and Skeptics + Innocents.
3rd PLACE PRIZE: A b&w lines commission from yours truly of anything your heart desires. Including porn.

Any other questions can be fielded here, through comments, or privately to my email. Or on AIM.

HAPPY COSTUMING!

How have things been as of late?

Last I heard you had the incident with your car.

Then things fell silent.

Hope all is well on your end, don't need a friend eating out of a can on a street.

Oh no, no homelessness here. Busy holiday season in cafe retail, though, and now I may have a big commission for a touring supply company... and possibly more, through a certain kind of big name record label.

How are you doing?

Still my beating mind.
:iconartistichobo:
Sounds like you've got alot to look up to Jude.

I wish you the best of luck.

Me?

I've had alot of free time, and my 360 died and most of my other various electronic equipment is on the fritz.

So I've decided to take the time to work on my novel.

It's coming along nicely, though I'm trying to get back into the flow of it.

Not only that but I'm taking advice/watching tutorials/etc., in regards to shading/coloring and furthering my artistic ability.
